The Missouri Center for patient safety is advocating the "CUSP" program that stands for "Comprehensive Unit based Safety Program". Officials say it has proved to cut down on in-hospital infections and educated employees on how to avoid mistakes. Steve Blackard is the infection control officer at community hospital in Fairfax. He says that facility has a variety of ways it's trying to keep patients, staff, and the public safe. Other hospitals in our region participating in the strategy include Hedrick in Chillicothe, Heartland in St. Joseph, Putnam County Memorial in Unionville, and Sullivan County Memorial in Milan.
