In 1997 a lawsuit was filed against the USDA claiming black farmers were being discriminated. About 80,000 farmers were never compensated because of late filing and other errors. Now the US Senate has approved paying out the black farmers. The National Black Farmers Association president John Boyd Jr. says the payments represent fairness. The measure now heads to the US House for approval.
