Dekalb Audit

Auditors found checks sat for at least a year in four county accounts, the collectors, Sheriff's trust, prosecuting attorney, and collector of revenue. The county says it's now voiding checks after 60 days of issuing them. Investigators also reviewed 30 expenditures, and found 10 that were not approved by a department head to verify the county's paying only for goods or services that were actually received. They also found 7 different funds in DeKalb county government in which payments were approved that exceeded the approved budget, including the assessment fund and senior services for 2008 and domestic violence fund. Investigators also found a former county employee being listed as an authorized signer to access funds. The county says the employee's name would be removed immediately, and it will ensure signature cards are kept up to date.
