Grandparents Scam

A Maryville couple has also reported getting the phone call. It's known as the grandparent scam. Elderly people are answering the phone when the caller on the other line identifies himself as a grandchild who is in some kind of trouble usually in jail and needing bail money. The bogus story usually has the fake grandchild in a canadian jail. The recent call to the Maryville couple was traced to Tennessee. The grandparent scam was popular around this time of year 2 years ago but both Daviess and Nodaway County authorities warn the scammers are back at it and you need to take extra precautions if you get such a call such as not feeding them personal information but asking them questions to determine if it's really your relative that is calling asking for money.
