The vote was approved Friday morning to import 150 head of elk into 3 Southern Missouri Counties. But groups like the Missouri Farm Bureau and Missouri Dairy Association oppose the move, saying the wlk will cause car accidents, damage crops and fences, and spread diseases like tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease to livestock. Joe Jerek of the Department of Conservation says the 3 county restoration zone has few roads, and promises all the elk will be microchipped and tracked with radio collars. Jerek says restoring elk will provide economic boost to the region through tourism and hunting.
