Music Professor's Death

Byron Mitchell passed away September 15h. He taught at Northwest Missouri State University from 1964 to 1999, leading and shaping the tower choir and university chorale. While there he won two Missouri Music Educators' Association Awards with the tower choir. Mitchell died at the age of 74. According to his wife Fran, he died of Alzheimers Disease. Mitchell was regarded by colleagues as a soft-spoken and humble man. A memorial service will be at 2 October 9th at the Charles Johnson Theatre on campus at the University in Maryville. Alumni are invited to join the tower choir to perform "Fare Thee Well Love, " 'A Parting Blessing," and "Amazing Grace." A musical scholarship has been set up in Mitchells name.
