K-C-P and L filed the request with the Missouri Public Service Commission.
It wants to raise the monthly electrical bills by nearly 14 percent.
For the average Northwest Missouri K-C-P and L customer this would mean paying another 12 dollars and 82 cents every month.
The company says that would raise more than 22 million dollars... which it would use toward renewable energy initiatives and other projects.
If state regulators approve, the increase would take effect May of next year.
