Humphrey, an Albany, Missouri native, who won two silver medals in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, recently graduated from the Police Academy and is now pulling 12-hour shifts for the Raymore Police Department.
Humphrey says she shocked a lot of people when she said decided to be a police officer. She says she had no interest in opening a gym or becoming a gymnastics coach.
The 20 years Humphrey spent training in gymnastics led to surgeries on her elbow, hip and back. And she's always had an interest in law enforcement, which she says is exciting.
The Kansas City Star reports that Humphrey is not completely out of gymnastics. She will help choose the girls team for the 2012 Olympics.
