Mercer Audit

Investigators counted 31 closed meetings of the Mercer County Commission in the two year period ending in 2008... and found elected officials did not comply with various aspects of the State's Sunshine Law in some of those closed meetings.
Auditors have also found major weaknesses in property tax collection handling, saying the Mercer County Clerk doesn't maintain proper account books or records.
They also found no oversight in the monthly or annual settlements within the Collector-Treasurer's office.
Auditors say the County Clerk didn't prepare or verify the accuracy of the delinquent tax books prepared by the County Collector-Treasurer.
