National Winner

Grundy County's Emergency Services Coordinator received the "Environmental Hero" award yesterday.

National Weather Service officials near Kansas City say Briggs spends at least 2 hundred hours a year feeding meteorologists information through amateur radio transmissions.

It was Briggs who was at the helm on May 13th of last year.

That's when a killer tornado ripped through the Milan and Kirksville areas.

National Weather Service personnel say Briggs was responsible for saving countless lives by monitoring conditions and getting information to the National Weather Service from his Trenton base.
