The Coneflower has been chosen by the city council to help promote city beautification efforts, as well as provide a unified landscaping to Maryville.
The Coneflower was chosen among 5 candidates with feedback from the Maryville Garden Club and horticultural experts at Northwest Missouri State University.
The perennial won out because of it's easy maintenance, drought tolerant characteristics, and wide variety of colors.
The city says having an official flower is a compliment to the new Pride of Maryville program, which is designed to beautify the city and create awareness among Maryville residents.
