DAVIESS COUNTY, MO. (2010-3-1) An audit finds thousands of dollars were taken from Daviess County government from a former treasurer.
State documents obtained by KXCV news show the State auditor found between 2005 and 2008, $24,700 were taken by the former treasurer of the developmentally disabled board for herself. She's since been sentenced to probation and 90 days probation, but the audit says poor oversight and lack of controls didn't catch it sooner. The audit also says inventories of assets owned by Daviess County are not performed annually, the road and bridge department and the sheriff's office don't maintain correct vehicle, mileage, or fuel records. The prosecuting attorney's office doesn't adequately perform bank reconciliations, and some Daviess County employee timesheets aren't approved and signed by supervisors.
