Both groups have been using senors to measure the amount light reflected from corn to help determine how much nitrogen should be used on the crop. Wayne Flanary, regional agronomist, says this presents a big change for growers that use nitrogen. The University of Missouri and the agricultural research service have developed an algorithm that interpets sensor data and uses the information to determine the amout of nitrogen to be used on that crop.
