Linn County Chronic Wasting

Chronic wasting disease has been discovered in a captive white-tailed deer in Linn County, and now State officials are investigating. Chronic wasting disease effects deer, elk, and moose, but State veterinarian Dr. Taylor Woods says there's no evidence it poses any risk to other domestic animals nor to humans. It's believed to be spread from animal to animal contact or from soil to animal contamination. The State's deer biologist says a pre-determined testing protocol is now being put in place to ensure North Missouri's white tail deer population remains healthy and strong.
