Grandparent Scam

The state Attorney General says people are calling unsuspecting seniors.... posing as a grandchild who's in trouble- often the story revolves around an accident or being in jail for drunk driving.

Scammers are asking the grandparents to wire money to Canada via Western Union.

And it's worked: one Missouri grandmother wired 20 thousand dollars after getting the call from the phony grandson.

In this identity-theft age, the callers are using a large amount of personal information about the family to pull the scam.

State investigators are urging grandparents to check with family members to confirm the call is a hoax.
