Hiawatha City

At the recent city commission meeting a developer from Plano, Texas talked with commissioners about building a "Sleep Inn" hotel within Hiawatha, next to the McDonald's. Plans call for a 52-room structure that could employ 5 full time employees and about 20 part time workers. It would also include a business center, indoor pool and spa. If all goes to plan, the new hotel should be open by spring of 2011. The City is considering whether or not to issue nearly $4 million in industrial revenue bonds for the project. Hiawatha council members also got an update on the new City Hall project, which is about theree-fourths complete. They also voted to provide fire protection to the Hiawatha township through the end of this year.
