Seniors can learn about area agencies and businesses that cater to their needs and be entertained by a female barbershop group in an upcoming event at Rolling Hills Consolidated Library.

Senior Fair 2009 is planned for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Belt Branch, 1904 N. Belt Highway. Sponsored by Classy Seniors, the library's program series for patrons ages 55 and older, the free event will feature booths from more than 15 area businesses and agencies that serve seniors. Some booths will provide blood pressure and cholesterol checks.

The library will show off its low vision equipment, including portable magnifiers that patrons can check out to use at home for reading.

Internet computers also will be set up so patrons can browse Web sites for seniors.

The featured entertainment for the day will be Riversong Chorus, a female barbershop group that will perform at 10 and 11:30 a.m.

This is the fourth year for the Senior Fair, and it is an event seniors have come to look forward to, said Shirlene Zipp, Belt Branch library assistant who leads the Classy Seniors program.

"It's a great event for camaraderie and for seniors to visit with other people they know," she said.
