HIAWATHA, KS (2009-09-04) The City of Hiawatha will be installing metal legs on the City's Water Tower.
At the last commission meeting Hiawatha officials discussed the project, which would cover the Water Tower legs for 12 feet on each leg that's less than the 20 feet originally planned for. The move is designed to comply with the City's insurance company, and by decreasing the section's lengths it will also cut the cost by $5,500. Hiawatha also approved the 2010 Budget. Commissioners also heard from a citizen wanting to keep chickens. She had received 13 birds in March, but didn't realize the city had an ordinance against keeping chickens within the City limits. She offered several suggestions to commission members, assuring them she will be donating any extra eggs from the chicken to the food pantry.
