Missouri has increased its capacity by 90 percent in just the last three months.
According to a report from the American Wind Energy Association, the Show Me state's wind energy capcity of more than 300 megawatts. Industry data and Analysis Director Elizabeth Salerno says the increase is in part because of a ballot measure approved in 2008 mandating a renewable electricity standard of 15 percent by 2021.
Missouri's increase in wind energy production can also be attributed to the large farm near Tarkio that recently went online. The Farmer's City Wind Farm alone added 146 megawatts of energy capacity.
