Previously the city has supplied the labor for putting in drainage tubes for residents- the citizens, then, pay for the tubes themselves.
At the last City Commission meeting the City Attorney reported this should be stopped, as the practice is using public funds for private entities.
The public purpose doctrine dictates public funds should be used for the public in general, not for individuals.
The City is working on a plan to alert residents know about a policy change.
The City Commissioners also got an update on the Enterprise Facilitation Project.
That's the program that coaches new and existing businesses in a 5 county area in South East Nebraska.
Since they've started in 2003 they've helped 125 clients.
