The new Nodaway Humane Society is no longer accepting animals at the shelter from outside the areas which have an agreement with the Humane Society.
This means dogs and cats found inside the city limits of Maryville, Burlington Junction, Hopkins, and Pickering can be taken in, but no others unless those dropping them off pay a fee which is the cost to keep them at the shelter.
Humane Society President Doug Sutton says it happened when the Nodaway County Commission recently decided not to help fund the operations.
Sutton says the Humane Society is, however, following the piece of advice the commissioners did give them.
Ironically, the Humane Society's own President can't drop off animals any more since he lives outside the Animal Control Agreement Zone.
