The research shows that most children born with birth defects were conceived in the late spring and early summer, when farmers apply chemicals to their fields.
Doctor Paul Winchester is a Professor of Pediatrics at Indiana University's School of Medicine and lead author of the report.
Winchester says that the correlation is clear and it may be time to rethink how these chemicals are used.
Winchester says the numbers are significant and it is time to do more research.
