MARYVILLE, MO (2008-11-10) The major electric provider for Northwest Missouri appears to be doing very well financially.
Great Plains Energy is the holding company for KCP&L the company that just bought out the old Aquila and provides electricity to thousands north of Kansas City and into the St. Joseph and Maryville areas.
Great Plains says in the third quarter of this year it made 104 million dollars.
Its Aquila division made 17 million in the 3-month period.
A company statement obtained by KXCV news says a mild summer and an economic downturn didn't hurt overall profits because the company was able to capture wholesale market opportunities and acquiring the former Aquila company also strengthened the company as a whole.
