Two dispatchers at the Chillicothe police department are being recognized for saving a suicidal resident… who happened to be hundreds of miles away.
The police department says an officer in Wichita Kansas contacted the Chillicothe dispatch center and told them he had information about a vehicle on interstate 35 in Kansas that was from Chillicothe and the driver was suicidal.
Chillicothe dispatcher Wanda Urton worked with the Wichita police, found the local resident's cell phone number in a database, and called the person, keeping them on the phone in a lengthy conversation.
Meanwhile, dispatcher Karri Cunow took information from the conversation and contacted multiple law enforcement agencies in Kansas.
Through their efforts, a kansas sheriff's deputy was able to find the driver and intervene.
The two Chillicothe dispatchers are being credited for saving the individual's life just outside of Ottawa, Kansas.
