That's the request from the State Department of Natural Resources…. Which wants to put an air-monitoring station for ozone in Savannah.
New EPA regulations require ozone monitoring downwind of more population centers than in the past- now… this includes monitoring St. Joseph.
Authorities say Savannah's proximity to St. Joe is right for the possible formation of ozone there.
The new monitoring station is set to be installed at the edge of Duncan Park… and the ozone readings from Savannah will be posted on the internet several times a day.
Local officials say this could help people with asthma or respiratory problems.
In other city news… Savannah City Council members this week heard an update on the bullet-proof vests project at the police department… saying officers have been measured and fitted and the new vests are on the way. Those vests should have a life-span of about 5 years.
